Home Ambulatory Video EEG
What is an EEG?
- An Electroencephalogram (EEG) is a non-invasive test that records electrical activity of the brain by electrodes connected to an EEG device.
- EEGs are used to detect abnormal brain activity (epileptiform discharges). It does not test intelligence.
- There are many types of EEG test. Example: a Routine EEG done for 30-90minutes in a clinic or hospital.
What is Video EEG (VEEG)?
- The patient is video recorded to capture observable & experiential events called seizures.(click here to know more About Seizures)
- The recorded EEG (brain activity) is compared with the video captured seizures.
- This accurately diagnose & differentiate Epileptic seizures, Non-Epileptic seizures, and Epileptiform Discharges with no seizure events. (read more in About Seizures)
What is a Home Ambulatory VEEG?
- A long EEG recording of 24 hours or longer, done together with video recording. It does not miss anything unlike a 30-90 minutes Routine EEG.
- Done in the comfort of the patient’s home, with normal daily routine and sleep patterns with no artificial environment such as being in the hospital.
- Patient wears a small lightweight device and is fully mobile around the home. Patient is not required to sit or lie still as in a Routine EEG recording.
- Is the Gold Standard of EEG recording and has greater diagnostic value than a Routine EEG for seizure detection.
Why order a Home Ambulatory VEEG Study?
Won’t Miss A Thing
Long recording time means a greater chance of capturing seizures & abnormal brain episodes that could happened anytime during the day and night (sleep). These episodes will all be missed by a Routine EEG of 30-90 minutes.
To Investigate If Seizures & Abnormal Brain Activity Are The Cause For:
• Cognitive • Behavioural & Psychiatric • Motor • Experiential • Sensory• Sleep Disorders • Autonomic • Signs & Symptoms
To Differentiate
Epileptic Seizures, Non Epileptic seizures, Epileptiform Discharges without seizures(read more in About Seizures)
Further Investigation
To allow caregivers and patients to dig on for answers as doctors may be unaware that the signs and symptoms the patient are exhibiting are actually seizures, and stop investigating further.
In addition, patients with normal Routine EEG maybe still exhibiting seizure features and therefore need a longer Video EEG to capture these missed episodes.
Before Making Any Appointments
Use Home Ambulatory VEEG to determine if seizures or abnormal brain discharges are present before making an appointment with the specialist
Benefits of Home Ambulatory VEEG
Convenient for the patient as no travelling is required. Our personnel comes to your home to perform the study.
Comfortable for patients especially those with disabilities, special needs, and young children to remain in their familiar setting.
Less stressful, patient is mobile in their typical environment, with normal daily and sleep routine.
Short wait time leads to early diagnosis & appropriate intervention resulting in better quality of life, giving relief and satisfaction to both caregivers and patients.
Minimizing hospital or clinic visits.
